Lease Dated 16 October 1766 Marquis of Downshire to John Betty, Farmer, Ballyworfy, containing 8 acre 3 rood 30 perch. To hold this Lease during the term of the natural Lives of Richard Betty, 3rd son of the said John Betty, age 12.  Jane Betty, 2nd daughter of the said John Betty, age   8.   Elizabeth Betty, 3rd daughter of the said John Betty, age 6.

Map of John Betty’s farm which adjoined the old road from Lisburn to Hillsborough close to the junction with the road to Larch field.

Yearly rent £4.10.0 together with £0.2.6 receivers fee payable at the Feast of Philip and James and the Feast of All Saints.  Also at the end of the yearly term, two fat Capons or one shilling from Acquillance.  Also paying to Earl of Hillsborough his Heirs, etc. the sum of tens shillings in lieu thereof…

John Betty is to build within three years a substantial dwelling house of brick or stone and lime, 40 feet long, sixteen feet deep in the clear and eight feet high.  He is also to build a stable sixteen feet long, fourteen feet wide and seven feet high of stone and lime.  He is also to build a barn seven feet high, sixteen feet in length and fourteen feet wide of stone and lime.  He is to construct fences, quick set ditch of thorns or furze and plant on every perch of same, one oak, one ash, elm, beach or alder tree.  Keep open passageways and roads…

Lease dated 1 October 1774 to Richard Beatty, Ballykeel Ednagonnell.12 Acre situated in Ballykeel Ednagonnell. To hold this Lease during the term of the natural Lives of John Wilson,  son-in-law of the said Richard Beatty, age 24, Mary Wilson, wife of the said John Wilson and daughter of the said Richard Beatty, aged 20, Hercules Letham, eldest son of Henry Letham, Hillsborough, age 11.

Richard Beatty is to build a substantial dwelling house of brick or stone and lime, 44 feet long, 16 feet deep and eight feet high.  Also a stable, 7 feet high, 16 feet long, 14 feet wide…

Map shows Richard Beatty’s farm situated on the road from Hillsborough to Saintfield and passes through the southern portion of the farm.  To the west and south of Richard Beatty’s property are the properties occupied by John Beatty and James Beatty respectively.

Lease Dated 1 October 1774 to marquis of Downshire to James Beatty, the Elder, Ballykeel Ednagonnell.  12 acres situated in Ballykeel Ednagonnell. To hold this Lease during the term of the natural lives of Richard Beatty 3rd son of the said James Beatty, age 22, William Beatty the youngest son of the said James Beatty, age 1, Arthur McQuiggin only son of Joshua McQuiggin, Ballykeel Ednagonnell and grandson of the above named James Beatty age 5 years.

Map attached shows the farm of James Beatty was located at the three road junction of the roads leading from Hillsborough to Ballynahinch and Saintfield. The adjoining farms were the properties occupied by Richard Beatty and Jas Beatty’s, Junior respectively.

Lease expired 14 October 1825.
