In September of 1832, George Allen, a resident of Iredell County, North
Carolina, filed an application for a military pension for his services
during the Revolutionary War. Mr. Allen stated that he was born about the
year of 1744 in Hanover County, Virginia. He was first drafted to serve
in Captain Bryant's Company under the command of General Buttrem and was
discharged at Salisbury after three months of service. He was again
drafted in 1782 to serve in the company of Captain Jones at the Battle of
Eutaw Springs in North Carolina and was discharged by General Greene at
Salisbury. Mr. Allen further stated that he was living in Wake County at
the time he was first drafted and he remained there until 1800 when he
removed to Iredell County where he had lived ever since. (National
