In Northumbria Collectanae 1645-1720 it is recorded that Thomas Everett had two orphans, William and Mathew Garrett, bound to him. He was to teach them shoemaking. On 26 July 1756, Mathew Garrett was one of the witnesses to Thomas's will. After Thomas's death, the inventory of his possessions consisted of shoemaker's tools.

Date 6 July 1726

In the name of God amen I Thomas Everitt of the county of Northunberland in the colony of Virginia being sick and weak of body but of perfect sence and memory praise be to God for the same and considering the frailty of human nature and the certainty of death do make and ordaine this my last will and testament in the manner following.

First: I give bequeath my soule to God my Creator and Redeemer and my body to the earth its original to be buried in Christian Burial according to the direction of my Exrs hereafter named being fully assured that the Sacrifice and death of my dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is Sufficient to atone for my sins tho innumerable, and therefore I hope that my Soul and Body will have a joyful meeting at the resurrection of the just by the merits, mediation and intercession of my Compete Redeemer the Lord Jesus Christ. And as for what worldly estate it hath pleased God of his Mercy to bless me with all fare beyond my deserts after all my just debts, if any, are satisfyd and paid, I give and despose of the same in manner and form following.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my eldest son John Everitt all the land and plantation I now live on and all the Appurtenances thereunto belonging and also my still and its appurtenances to him and his heirs for ever.

Item: I give [written over is "I bequeath"] unto my son Thomas Everitt all the land and Appurtenances thereunto belonging that I bought of Thomas Gaskins and Henry Gaskins it being one hundred acres, to him and his heirs for ever.

Item: My will is and I do hereby order that if my son John should depart this life without lawful issue before my son Thomas that then the land and still and their Appurtenances before given to my son John shall be my son Thomas' and his heirs forever, but if my son Thomas should depart this life without lawful issue before my son John that then the land before given to my son Thomas shall be my son William Everits and his heirs for ever.

Item: My will is and I do hereby order and desire that my son William shall have his maintenance with my son Thomas until he attains to the age of 18 years and then to be at liberty to work for himself.

Item: My will is that my daughter Winnifred Pullen shall have five hundred pounds of tobacco paid to her out of my estate by my Execr after my decease and no more.

Item: My will is that each of my daughters (that is) Mary, Sarah, Judee, and Lucretia Everitt, shall have as much of my estate paid to them as my Exet after my decease as each of their sister have had or shall have before and after the making of this my last will and testament.

Item: My will is that my two sons Jesse and Rawleigh Everitt being both young and my two daughters Judee and Lucretia Everitt shall remaine and abide with my loving wife Elizabeth Everitt their mother and with my son John until they attaine to the age of years and that my loving wife together with my son John shall have the use of my Three negros, named Abba, Henry and Jenny and of all the rest of my personal estate not already given for the use and maintenance of my young children. During my loving wifes widowhood without bringing my estate to an appraisement.

Item: It is my will that if my son John and my son Thomas Everitt should both depart this life without issue lawfully begotten that then that part of land that was allotted for them shall fall to the next brother according to his birth that is to say if John and Thomas should both die aforesaid, then the Land that was given to John shall fall to William and the land that was given to Thomas shall fall to Jesse and from William and jesse to Rawleigh.

Item: My will is that if my son John should die before his brother and sisters are satisfyed and paid what ever small part of my estate of right belonging to them after my decease that then my son Thomas shall take the same care of his Brothers and sisters as he my son John was to have done.

Item: My will is that the first child that Negroe Jenny shall bring shall be my son Thomas's and the next child my son William's the third to my son Jesse and the fourth to my son Rawleigh (if it happens that she shall bring to many).

Item: My will is that at my loving wifes death or marriage which shall first happen the remaining part of my personal estate not already given or bequeathed shall be equally divided between my five sons John, Thomas, William, Jesse, Rawleigh and that each of them have a like one with another. And further my will is that if negro Jenny should not bring any children or at least so many that each of my sons aforesaid my have one that then my son shall have the three Negros (negroes named Abba, Henry and Jenny) he paying each of his brothers their part according as the Negors shall be valued.

Lastly I do nominate and appoint my loving wife Eliza Everitt and my son John Everitt my Executors to see that this my last will and testament by timely performed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and in testimony that it is my last will and testament I have hereunto sett my hand and seale this twenty sixth day of July Anno Dom 1756.
