William Allen--wills in 1789 in mecklenburg Co. Va. and Young Allen of
Wake Co. NC would indicate a relationship. They were probably brothers
and perhaps sons of Robert Allen of Lunenburg Co. Va.
Will book 3, 1788-1798, Mecklenburg Co. Va. indicate that he left property to children: Robert Allen, Susanna Allen, Joseph Allen, Pines Allen, Nancy Allen, Fanney Smith Allen, Pleasant Allen, m. Rebecca Watson 8 Aug. 1787, Dolly Allen, Mary Allen, Elizabeth Burnett, Turner Allen, Drury Allen d. 18 Apr. 1823 m. Nelly (Eleanor) Jarrott, Lucy Allen, m. Philip Morgan, William Allen, John Allen m. Nancy Morgan 15 Dec.1783, Martha Jarrott, Young Allen m. Sarah Poole 27 Feb. 1786 and Meridith Allen m. Nancy Cooper 9 Jul. 1788. Four sons of William Allen relocated to Anson Co. NC--Darling Allen, Drury Allen d. 1823, Meridith Allen (Anson Co. census of 1800) and Gary Allen d. 1806. There is evidence that William Allen of Meckenburg Co. Va., Young Allen of Wake Co. NC and David Allen, m. Marriages listed as (1). Mary Lewis, (2). unknown-Beverly, (3). Ann Smith. Mr Allen is listed as PS in the Virginia Line. No pension is available for Mr Allen since he died prior to the pension act of 1832. The family of Mary Lewis is descended from Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. Mary's nephew, Charles Lilburne Lewis married Lucy Jefferson, sister of Thomas Jefferson. Also Ann J. Lewis, Mary Lewis's niece married Randolph Jefferson, brother of Thomas Jefferson. I, William Allen, Sen. of St. James Parish of Mecklenburg County being sick and weak in body but sound and perfect memory do make and constitute and ordain this my last will and Testament revoking all former will by me made. Imps. I leave all that I am possessed with together till my just debts are honestly paid and then to be divided as shall hereafter mention - I then lend to my dear and loving wife Ann Allen all my land on the west side of Mountain Creek during her natural life with six Negroes namely Susser, Bob, Jacob, Salley, Vina, Winny Carter, with six cows and calves with two two- year-old bulls with one half my hogs, with all my household and my kitchen furniture, except one bed and furniture with one black mare and one horse by the name of Rolly, with one side saddle with seven head of sheep with seventy-five barrels of corn to raise my six youngest children Dividing amongst them their equal part of all but the land as they come of age and when the youngest child comes of age its my desire that the rest that's left be divided between my dear and loving wife Ann Allen and my youngest child and after my wife decease its my desire that the land should be set up and sold to the highest bidder giving twelve months Ct. and to be equally divided amongst my six youngest children, namely: Robert Allen, Susanna Allen, Joseph Allen, Pines Allen, Nancy Allen, Fanny Smith Allen,, but in case any of my youngest children should die then its my desire that it should be divided between the rest of my last wife's children, to them and their heirs forever. Item I give to my son Pleasant Allen all the land below his Spring branch on the east side of Mountain Creek between the said creek and Dreary Allen's line to him and his heirs forever - Item I give my son Grey Allen a Sorrel Horse Colt and twenty pounds cash to him and his heirs forever - Item I give to my daughter Dolly Allen one bed and furniture and twenty pounds of cash to her and her heirs forever. Item I give my daughter Mary Allen five shillings sterling to her and her heirs forever. Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth Burnett five pounds cash to get her a suit of clothes to her and her heirs forever. What other things I have not yet willed away, namely, five Negroes and my land not yet willed away I leave to be equally divided amongst my children as I shall hereafter mention the rest to be divided amongst Turner Allen, Drury Allen, Lucy Morgan, William Allen, John Allen, Darling Allen, Martha Jarrott, Young Allen, son Drury Allen I leave five pounds cash more than his Equal part with the rest to them their heirs forever. Certificate was granted them for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form, liberty being reserved for the other executor therein named to join in probate when he shall think fit.
