LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOHN PULLEN:
In the name of God, Amen, I, JOHN PULLEN, Sen'r of the County of Wake and State of North Carolina being weak in body but of sound mind and memory and calling to the mind the uncertainty of this transitory life doth this day in the Year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eight, make and ordain this my last will and testament and first of all I recommend my soul to almighty God who gave it me in certain hopes of a glorious resurrection through the merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body to the dust from whence it came to be buried in a decent like Christian manner and as to what worldly goods it hath been please God to bestow on me I dispose of them as follows: First of all it is my Will and desire that my Just debts be paid. ITEM: I do lend to my loving wife Anne Pullen all my plantation and lands belonging to me not otherwise disposed of and also lend my said wife seven Negroes by name Ben, Dick, Kinchen, Cate, Temperance, Eaton and Ellick. I also lend my said wife two thirds fo all my stock of horses, cattle, hogs and sheep together with all my crops of all descriptions and all plantations utensils and house hold and kitchen furniture during her natural life or widowhood; nevertheless it is my Will that my son Turner Pullen should have the liberty of working any part of the said land where it will not interrupt his mother. ITEM: I do give to my son Thomas Pullen at the death of my wife one Negroe man by name Kinchen to him and his heirs forever. ITEM: I do give to my son George Pullen one Negroe boy by the name Eaton to him and his heirs forever. ITEM: I do give to my son Turner Pullen one Negroe girl by name Temperance and one cow and calf to him and his heir forever. ITEM: I do give to my John Pullen seventy five pounds at my death. ITEM: I do give to my son William Pullen fifteen pounds at my death. ITEM: I do give to my daughter Phebe Allen ten pounds at my death. ITEM: I do give to be daughter Sally Rush ten pounds at my death. ITEM: I do lend to my said wife one other Negroe woman by name Nan during her life or widowhood and at her death or marriage it is my will and the said Negroe chose her master or mistress of my children. Signed sealed published and delivered by the said John Pullen the Testator as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us, who were present at the time of signing and sealing thereof. Viz, I do nominate and appoint my sons Thomas Pullen and Turner Pullen and Allen W. Davis my true and lawful Executors to this my Last Will and Testament. Given under my and and seal this twenty fifth day of June One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eight. John (X) Pullen Witnesses: John (X) Barham Thomas Garriott Ellis Garriott The Last Will and Testament of JOHN PULLEN was placed into probate at the February Term of the Wake County Court in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1809: The within Will of JOHN PULLEN was duly proven in open Court by the oaths of John Barham, Thomas Garriott and Ellis Garriott subscribing Witnesses to the same and ordered to be recorded.
