Jacob and Mary Adaline lived in Newton, Catawba County, N.C. Newton was
laid off around 1842, at the time when Catawba County was being formed
from land broken off from the then-sprawling Lincoln County. The location
of Newton was donated by private property owners. On April 1843 the land
of Jacob McGee and two others were selected as the town site. The new
village bordered on the waters of Clark's Creek.
